{"id":53,"date":"2004-11-25T08:57:53","date_gmt":"2004-11-25T08:57:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/69.195.124.246\/~wisecon1\/blog\/?p=53"},"modified":"2004-11-25T08:57:53","modified_gmt":"2004-11-25T08:57:53","slug":"targeted_websit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wisecontradictions.com\/blog\/?p=53","title":{"rendered":"Targeted Website Searches with Firefox"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By now, everyone knows that Mozilla&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.org\/products\/firefox\/\">Firefox<\/a> is eating away at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.informationweek.com\/story\/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=54200257\">Internet Explorer&#8217;s<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.informationweek.com\/story\/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=54200257\"> market share.<\/a>&nbsp; It&#8217;s no wonder, innovation of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/windows\/ie\/default.mspx\">Internet Explorer<\/a> creeps along with releases of the Windows operating system.&nbsp; In true open source spirit, Firefox allows for anyone with a little know-how to contribute and improve the product.&nbsp; Case in point is the <a href=\"http:\/\/mycroft.mozdev.org\/index.html\">Mozilla mycroft project<\/a>, home to browser search plug-ins, which &quot;allow you to access a search engine right from your browser without having to go to the search engine&#8217;s page first.&quot; It&#8217;s pretty handy&#8211;I use it to search Amazon, track Fedex packages, look up entries in the&nbsp; Wikipedia, etc.&nbsp; Quite often, I need to google something at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.columbia.edu\">Columbia University<\/a>, so today I wrote a Firefox plug-in that will google those pages.&nbsp; I&#8217;ve submitted the plug-in to the folks at the mycroft project, but in the meantime, you can download the <a href=\"http:\/\/tedbongiovanni.typepad.com\/wise_contradictions\/files\/columbiaUniversitySearch.zip\">zip file<\/a>.&nbsp; To install on the Mac, you&#8217;ll need to drop it in: \/Applications\/Firefox.app\/Contents\/MacOS\/searchplugins&nbsp; On the PC, drop the files in:&nbsp; C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla Firefox\\&nbsp; Happy searching.
